Prof. Mahmood Yakubu: The Man at the Center of Unfair Controversy

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is a crucial institution in Nigeria responsible for organizing and overseeing elections in the country. The chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has been at the center of controversy following the 2022 general election. While some have criticized him for allegedly manipulating the election results, several others have called for prayers and commended his efforts to improve the electoral process.
It is important to acknowledge that organizing elections in a country as large and diverse as Nigeria is no easy task. Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has been at the helm of INEC during a period of significant electoral reforms, including the introduction of the Biometric Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and the Integrated Register of Voters (IREV). These digital innovations have helped to reduce electoral rigging and increase transparency in the electoral process.
Despite the challenges and criticisms faced by Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, it is clear that his efforts have had a positive impact on the Nigerian electoral system. The recent presidential election saw opposition parties alleging manipulation, but the Supreme Court upheld the results, indicating that the elections were free and fair.

The fact that President Bola Tinubu faced defeat in some states in the southwest during the elections is a testament to the effectiveness of the reforms introduced by Prof. Mahmood Yakubu. The winds of change are blowing, and it is clear that the electoral landscape in Nigeria is evolving.
As we reflect on the recent elections and the role of INEC, it is important to commend Prof. Mahmood Yakubu for his visionary leadership and tireless efforts to improve the electoral process. Our prayers should be with him as he continues to work towards a more transparent and credible electoral system in Nigeria.
Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has done his best to improve the electoral process in Nigeria. While there may be criticisms and challenges along the way, it is important to recognize the positive impact of his reforms. Let us continue to support and pray for his efforts to strengthen democracy in Nigeria.

Taraba: Group condemns NNPP protest, directs losers to go to court

A pro democracy group, Taraba First Group (TFG), has condemned a protest purportedly staged by NNPP members on Monday at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.  The protesters were,  among others things, demanding for review of the Taraba polls and calling for its cancelations. Recall that NNPP came second in the governorship polls won by PDP's Lt Col Agbu Kefas (rtd). Kefas has since been issued with a Certificate of Return.  Describing the protest as a brazen affront on democracy, TFG said Taraba electorate are prepared to defend their votes, stressing that INEC must not allow for any anti people development with devastating outcomes.
